Plastic melts like chocolate. Not in the mouth though. The new edition of the OO stool, designed in 56 hours studio, is made of a single material, plastic waste sourced from a chocolate factory.

Discarded polycarbonate molds from the factory were shredded, melted, and compressed into solid sheets by Plasticiet, a Rotterdam-based company that produces materials from post-industrial plastic waste.

The original OO stool is a flatpack furniture piece, that is milled with CNC from one single board, bamboo, wood, plastic, reclaimed door, or anything you can imagine and is flat enough.

The furniture collection was designed in 2D, focusing on reducing the waste of the sheet material by eliminating the negative space between the stool parts.

The tool

A hammer is cut out from the same sheet, and that is the only tool needed for the assembly.

There is no need for glue, screws or nails.

Additional objects such as soap dish, mirror frame and clock were designed that can be made from the offcuts, further minimalizing the production waste.

Joinery

The construction of the furniture was inspired by Japanese joinery. 

It allows easy assembling, and gives additional value, like the recycling friendly mono material design, durability, and simple, calming shapes.

The material

This new edition of OO stool is brought to life with the help of our partner, Plasticiet.

In 56 hours design studio, we reimagined ways to reuse plastic and give it a long life in a shape of a durable flatpack stool.
