Moka Flick Concept, 2018
Moka pot coffee brewer analysis:
Target Groups:
-Women/men, might experience difficulties with such a coffee maker that is hard to open and dangerously hot which prevents the user from brewing more potions in a row
-People who have small hands
-People who have muscle disorders
-Injury or overuse, such as sprains or strains, cramps or tendinitis
-A genetic disorder, such as muscular dystrophy
-Inflammation, such as myositis
-Diseases of nerves that affect muscles infections
-People under the effect of certain medicines
Challenging:
-to tighten up the two parts of the device till the coffee won't leak from the threaded join during brewing
-hard to loosen the parts, open the coffee maker, when you want to clean the device or make a new potion
-after brewing, the device is very hot everywhere, except the handle, so it is not suitable or safe for preparing other potions one after the other
-hard to grab and open the device with smaller hands, (sometimes also with regular ones), because you have to hold both parts of the device and turn them in order to loosen up the threaded join
Idea generation:
After summarizing all the advantages and disadvantages of a traditional Moka pot and the threaded join, the idea of the Moka Flick started taking shape. Through the sketches Mate was searching for solution to connect the bottom and the top parts of the brewer that leaving the threaded join behind. The idea generation led to a built-in clamp system that is easy to open and close.
Final design:
Brings back the classical shape of the original Italian Moka Pot with a new clip lock. The upper part of the brewer is made of glass in order to show when the process is over and the utensil must be taken off the stove. The clamp join that keeps the upper and the bottom parts together is made of standardized stainless steel. Moka Flick is a traditional coffee maker combined with an unconventional system that makes the device simple to open and close like an airtight clamp jar.
